Sri Lankan Beauty Asks for a Second Chance for Mali
Former Miss Universe Sri Lanka Jacqueline Fernandez, known for her beauty and acting skills, has joined the tens of thousands of compassionate people who are calling for Mali’s transfer to a sanctuary. Fernandez has spoken out to help free the elephant that was taken from Sri Lanka more than 36 years ago. Since then, Mali has lived in a tiny barren concrete enclosure in the Manila Zoo.
The Bollywood screen star sent a letter to the Philippine consul general to Sri Lanka urging him to do everything that he can to expedite Mali’s transfer. “I feel a genuine kinship with Mali since we were both born in Sri Lanka. This proud native daughter has come to symbolize oppression and cruelty, things that compassionate Sri Lankans and Filipinos condemn,” writes Fernandez in her letter. “I hope you agree that Mali should not have to suffer any longer. Let’s give our girl a second chance at life.”
We agree with you, Jacqueline: Mali deserves better. You can also help Mali. Sign our petition, and if you currently live outside the Philippines, please write a letter to your local embassy or consulate of the Philippines asking officials to help give Mali a second chance!
