PETRONAS Pledges Against Foie Gras
Your may have heard that the gorgeous and lovely Miss World Malaysia Thanuja Ananthan recently wrote to Malaysia’s Petronas asking it to drop foie gras from its events. Well, sometimes a letter is all it takes!
In a letter to PETA, Dato’ Shamsul Azhar Abbas, president and CEO, wrote, “All PETRONAS’ Motorsport events held in Malaysia as well as abroad, we do not serve Foie Gras and would like to assure you that it will not be served at any PETRONAS Motorsports hospitality arrangements.”
To make foie gras—French for “fatty liver”—workers use metal pipes to pump approximately 2 kilograms of a mixture of grain, maize, and fat into the stomachs of ducks and geese several times per day. As a result, the birds’ livers swell to up to 10 times their normal size, and the animals become sick and are often unable to move.
Follow PETRONAS’ compassionate lead! You, too, can make a big difference in the lives of birds by pledging never to eat foie gras.
