Get ‘Mugged’: Help Free Mali From a Life Sentence
Mali was still a nursing baby when she was torn from her home in Sri Lanka more than 36 years ago. Since then, Mali has been sentenced to a life of solitary confinement in a barren, cramped, concrete pen at the Manila Zoo and denied everything that is natural and important to her.
Elephants in the wild roam up to 50 kilometers a day and spend their days foraging for fresh vegetation, bathing in ponds, and socializing with their families and friends. At the Manila Zoo, Mali never feels the soft earth beneath her feet, and she is unable to socialize with other elephants. The entire Manila Zoo measures only 0.055 square kilometers—with Mali’s enclosure only a tiny fraction of that size.
Mali is serving a life sentence without having committed any crime. You can help get her “paroled” by creating your own “Free Mali” mug shot. Print out the mug shot sign, add your name, and snap a picture of yourself holding the sign.
Become a part of the “Free Mali” movement by sending us your picture at [email protected]. You can also share the picture through social-networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.
