PHOTOS: Colorful PETA Protesters Call For Boycott of the Pata Zoo
Today, brightly colored PETA activists—covered with bodypaint—protested against the horrifying and cruel conditions that animals are forced to endure at the Pata Zoo in Thailand. The zoo, located on the top floors of the Pata Pinklao Department Store, imprisons animals in extremely small, barren cages and deprives them of everything that’s natural and important to them. Animals like Kat, an orangutan imprisoned with little opportunity for psychological stimulation or physical exercise, and Bua Noi, a gorilla who has been alone and behind bars since 1983, are confined to concrete enclosures for their entire lives.
PETA has offered to transfer all the animals to a sanctuary, where they would have trees to climb, grass to roll on, and many other animals to play with, but the owner of the department store and the zoo has ignored our requests.
What You Can Do
Animals should never be confined for human entertainment! Please pledge to shun zoos and all other animal attractions. As long as people continue to buy tickets, animals will continue to suffer. Talk to family members and friends—especially those with small children—who may be inclined to support such facilities and explain that every ticket sale directly contributes to animals’ misery.
