Got Netflix? Then You’ve Got to Watch ‘Seaspiracy’

The countdown is over—the highly anticipated documentary Seaspiracy is officially available on Netflix! This can only mean one thing: It’s watch party time.

Since Netflix released the film’s trailer (above), it’s received more than half a million views. We’re excited to see this hit big with its powerful message, and you should be, too.

From the co-creator of the groundbreaking documentary Cowspiracy, Seaspiracy “illuminates alarming—and not widely known—truths about the widespread environmental destruction to our oceans caused by human behavior.” The film examines the global fishing industry, “challenging notions of sustainable fishing and showing how humans cause widespread environmental destruction.”

What Is a Watch Party, and How Do Watch Parties Work?

Hosting a Seaspiracy watch party is as easy as it is important. Use Teleparty (formerly known as Netflix Party), Houseparty, or Zoom (sign into your Netflix account, click the “Share Screen” button on Zoom, and press play) so that you and your viewing buddies can chat along during the film. A day or two before your Seaspiracy watch party, encourage your friends to try out a vegan fish recipe or two (a socially distanced potluck, if you will)! This will help your pals see just how easy it is to eat food that didn’t have a face and help save our oceans and the rest of the planet at the same time.

We know now that fish are smart, they can use tools, and they have impressive long-term memories and sophisticated social structures. And since we don’t subscribe to speciesism (an oppressive belief system in which those with power draw boundaries to justify using or excluding their fellow sentient beings who are less powerful), there’s really only one thing to do: Leave fish in peace.
