Carabao With Legs Hacked Off Left for Dead in the Philippines
In a horrifying act of cruelty to animals, a beloved carabao died alone from her injuries after her two right legs had been crudely hacked off by “pranksters.” She was stolen from her devastated human guardian, and the following day, she was found dead.

The rest of the gentle animal’s body was intact, indicating that she had been tortured and killed for no reason other than purely arbitrary cruelty.
The tragic story has gone viral, and thousands of Facebook users have expressed anger and sorrow for the animal and her heartbroken human companion.
Animal abusers are a danger to everyone. Violent acts toward animals have long been recognized as indicators of a dangerous psychopathy that does not confine itself to animal abuse. Research in psychology and criminology shows that people who commit acts of cruelty to animals don’t stop there—many of them move on to harming their fellow humans.

Communities must recognize that abuse to any living being is unacceptable and endangers everyone. With this in mind, please be sure to do the following:
- Urge your local law-enforcement agencies, prosecutors, and schools to take cruelty to animals seriously.
- Be aware of signs of neglect or abuse and immediately report suspected crimes to authorities.
- Don’t ignore even minor acts of cruelty. If you witness or suspect cruelty, report it.
Aggravated cruelty to animals carries a penalty of up to PhP250,000 and three years’ imprisonment under the Philippines’ Animal Welfare Act of 1998, as amended by Republic Act No. 10631. Those with information about this case are encouraged to contact their local authorities immediately.
