Hyo-jin Kim Named PETA Ambassador for 2013
Christmas Day marked the first all–faux-fur fashion show ever held in Korea. At the landmark event—which was put on by Coexistence of Animal Rights on Earth (CARE) and other nongovernmental organizations, including PETA—Korean actor Hyo-jin Kim received a special Animal Friend Award for her dedication to animal protection and was also named PETA’s ambassador for 2013.
Just as I said in my remarks on the opening day, people all over the world are realizing that there’s no need for anybody to be a fashion victim—and that includes animals who are killed for their fur or skins. Just because we don’t see the foxes circling in their cages or hear the rabbits screaming as they are skinned alive doesn’t mean that these things didn’t occur. Cruelty is hidden inside every fur collar and cuff hanging on department store racks. If the suffering were visible, or if we could hear the animals’ screams every time we picked up a pair of fur-lined gloves, I doubt that anyone would touch a fur coat with a 10-foot pole.
As more and more people are realizing that fur belongs on its original owners, the demand for luxurious faux furs that nobody had to pay for with their lives is growing by leaps and bounds. And now, so you can enjoy the show just as much as I did, here are some photos from the event:
Help save lives—pledge to be fur-free today and every day!
